Gachagua Ally Pushes for Uhuru to Pass Mt. Kenya Kingpin Baton
Kieni MP Anthony Wainaina has urged former President Uhuru Kenyatta to officially hand over the leadership of the Mt Kenya region to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Wainaina highlighted the importance of a smooth leadership transition within the region to maintain unity and strength during a burial ceremony in Nyeri.
“We want Uhuru Kenyatta to bless Rigathi Gachagua as the Mt Kenya Region leader,” Wainaina expressed.
He suggested presenting gifts to the former president to show gratitude for his decade of leadership over the country and the Mt Kenya region.
“If given a chance, we would bring gifts to Uhuru to thank him for his 10 years of leadership and ask for his blessing for Gachagua.”
Wainaina’s statements echo a sentiment among some regional leaders who believe Gachagua, with his political influence and proximity to power, is apt to lead Mt Kenya despite current political challenges.

They argue that Kenyatta’s formal endorsement would solidify Gachagua’s position and help align the region’s future political strategy.
The call for Gachagua’s endorsement comes amid ongoing political shifts and discussions about the Mt Kenya region’s and the country’s future as President William Ruto engages the opposition.
Uhuru Kenyatta, who served two terms, remains a pivotal figure in regional politics, and his endorsement is viewed as essential for any aspiring leader.
Wainaina also emphasized the symbolic significance of giving gifts to Kenyatta as a token of appreciation for his decade-long leadership.
“It’s not just political; it’s about respect and gratitude. We want to honor him and ensure the region stays united under strong leadership,” the MP said.
During his presidency, Uhuru Kenyatta was known for meeting with regional residents and leaders at Sagana State Lodge to discuss the future of the vote-rich region’s politics and development.
