From Triumph to Turmoil: The Post-Election Plunge of Prominent Politicians

Following the 2022 general elections, numerous well-known politicians experienced an unforeseen shift, moving from the peak of political power to a more subdued and less noticeable way of life.

Kenyan politicians are familiar with being in the spotlight, so when many of them face setbacks, they tend to withdraw from public attention to devise a plan for their comeback in the upcoming elections.

PoliticalPulseChat examines some of the notable figures who suffered significant defeats in the 2022 elections.

Millicent Omanga

Millicent Omanga, the Nairobi Women Representative Aspirant, was noticeably absent from the political spotlight after losing to Esther Passaris, the current Nairobi Women Representative.

Omanga’s political path has taken a less prominent turn, despite his inclusion on President William Ruto’s list of Cabinet Administrative Secretary (CAS) appointments.

Evans Kidero, the former Nairobi governor, had a dramatic metamorphosis after losing the Homa Bay Gubernatorial contest to Gladys Wanga.

Kidero, a former significant political player, currently works as a political analyst after leaving the active political environment following his losing election appeal.

He was also named Chief Administrative Secretary in President William Ruto’s administration.

Sospeter Ojaamong’

Sospeter Ojaamong’, the former Busia Governor, saw his fortunes change after losing the Teso South Member of Parliament seat to independent candidate Geoffrey Omuse.

Ojaamong graciously conceded loss and has since kept a low profile, abstaining from major engagement in political discourse.

Naomi Shaban

Naomi Shaban, the Taveta MP for the past two decades, risked loss in the 2022 elections against Bwire Okano of the Wiper Party.

Despite rare appearances in political venues, Shaban has chosen a more reserved position in the present political environment.

Wambugu Ngunjiri

Wambugu Ngunjiri, who lost his Nyeri Town MP seat in the 2022 elections, has transitioned from being a prominent politician to a political analyst.

While constantly sharing his ideas on social media, Ngunjiri has been tight-lipped regarding his future political ambitions, putting his next move in the dark.

Amos Kimunya

In 2022, Amos Kimunya, a former Finance Minister, lost an election against UDA candidate Wanjiku Muhia.

As a result, Kimunya elected to withdraw from the political scene, prompting onlookers to speculate on whether this was a brief respite or a more permanent adjustment in his political trajectory.
