Four Men Who Visited Kelvin Kiptum’s Home Days Before His Death Speak Out
On Wednesday morning, the individuals who had visited Kelvin Kiptum’s father a few days before the marathoner’s death voluntarily appeared at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) office in Kaptagat to undergo questioning.
The four individuals, called upon when Kiptum’s father disclaimed any knowledge of them, turned themselves into the authorities in Kaptagat. They were then transported to the local police headquarters in Iten, where they provided statements explaining the reasons for their search for the deceased Kiptum.
Information has surfaced regarding their visit to the residence of the deceased Kiptum. Allegedly, the four individuals were on a mission to engage with Kiptum to deliberate on the specific details of a contract valued at Ksh.45 million, which had been previously signed between the late marathoner and a Chinese company.
Insiders informed Gossipa2z that the sports figure chose to reimburse the Chinese company. However, the company was solely focused on ensuring the athlete honored his contractual commitments rather than engaging in a legal dispute. As a result, they dispatched the quartet to facilitate a resolution.
“The Chinese company was to supply sports equipment to Kiptum to be used during the Chicago marathon and it is alleged that Kiptum opted to use a different brand and not the Chinese brand as agreed,” Elgeyo Marakwet CCIO Joshua Chelal told Gossipa2z.

“Therefore they (the Chinese company) were aggrieved and sent the four men to negotiate whether they could be compensated or whether they would be given another opportunity to supply Kiptum equipment for the forthcoming Rotterdam race slated for April 2024.”
The attorney for the group, Kipyegon Lagat, informed Gossipa2z that the quartet is familiar to Kiptum’s family. He also mentioned that the four individuals had a productive conversation with the deceased marathoner when they interacted.
“None of my clients were sent from State House as alleged by sections of the media,” said Lagat.
The clients of the attorney are not in custody, but they must check in with the CCIO on Friday as inquiries persist.
Meanwhile, arrangements for the burial of the deceased Kiptum have commenced, with the organizing committee announcing that the late athlete will be laid to rest at his residence on Saturday, February 24.
