Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s Long-Time Aide, George Oduor, Passes Away

George Oduor, a trusted aide and bodyguard to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has sadly passed away. He died on Wednesday, April 2, at Nairobi West Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for the past two weeks.

Oduor was a well-known figure who was often seen alongside Raila Odinga at political rallies and public events. His passing has left a void in the political world, as many leaders and associates have paid tribute to his contributions and loyalty.

Tributes Pour In for George Oduor

Following the news of his death, political leaders and close associates expressed their heartfelt condolences. Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai shared a tribute on X, remembering Oduor as more than just an aide to Raila Odinga. Alai described him as a brother who offered wise counsel and guidance to many. “You were more than an aide to Baba. You offered to us brotherly advice and sought to mentor us,” Alai tweeted.

Philip Etale, the Communications Director of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), also mourned Oduor’s passing. Etale referred to Oduor as a steadfast friend and confidant who had always stood by his side. “This is one man who stood by me at all cost. I have lost a friend. Rest easy George,” Etale said in an emotional statement.

United Green Movement (UGM) party co-leader Neto Agostinho also shared his memories of Oduor, recalling their interactions dating back to 1984. Agostinho remembered meeting Oduor when he was part of a group that had been sent away from the military following the 1982 coup. Their paths crossed again years later, during Agostinho’s work with the Constant Gardiner Trust in Kibera. Agostinho praised Oduor for his loyalty, dependability, and his invaluable support during the ODM party’s nomination process in 2012.

“Rest in peace, George Oduor. Loyalty as it comes,” Agostinho said. “My condolences to Raila Odinga and the ODM party fraternity.”

    Oduor’s Legacy and Contributions

George Oduor was known for his loyalty and commitment to his role as an aide to Raila Odinga. His presence at important political events made him an integral part of Odingaโ€™s team, and his loss is deeply felt by those who knew him closely.

As tributes continue to pour in, it is clear that George Oduor’s legacy will live on through the many people he mentored and supported throughout his life. His contributions to the ODM party and to the political sphere will not be forgotten.
