Former Police Officer Who Fled Mandera After Surviving Bomb Attack Traced To Turkana
A former police officer, previously stationed at Elwak Police Station in Mandera County, disappeared suddenly but has now been located in the Lorugum area of Turkana County, where he is currently employed as a construction worker.
During a conversation with Citizen TV, ex-officer Clement Erumu shared that he chose to resign from his position following a close call with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack while on duty. Unfortunately, during that incident, some of his colleagues lost their lives.
“Mimi nilikuwa nafanya kazi kwa crime department hapo Elwak, na nilikuwa nafanya kazi za escorts na zingine,” he said.
“Ilikuwa gari inajitokeza kwenda escort sasa gari yetu ikakanyaga IED ikalipuka kila mtu akafariki…nakumbuka rafiki yangu Geoffrey Ruto…nilikaa nikaona sasa kama huyu amefariki nikaona ni kama next ni mimi.”
Enduring a brush with death marked only the start; subsequent adversities significantly burdened his thoughts, influencing his professional endeavors.

The decisive moment arrived during the funeral ceremony for his aforementioned comrade who had passed away, leading him to retire quietly and head back to his hometown.
Dr. Moses Kimenchu, a counseling officer stationed at the police headquarters, has diligently monitored the officer’s activities throughout the years.
Dr. Kimenchu revealed that Erumu is grappling with depression as a result of the traumatic incidents he faced while on duty.
“Depression is real. I want officers who are going through challenges to talk and I want this one to return to work,” he stated.
The counseling department is organizing mental health support for Erumu as part of his preparation for possible reintegration into the police force. This has sparked a collective call across various departments, urging human resource units to devise and implement employee counseling strategies. The emphasis is on strengthening mental well-being within the workforce.
