Former North Imenti MP Hon Silas Muriuki is dead.

Muriuki, 74, passed away on September 6 while receiving medical care in a Nairobi hospital. According to reports, he passed away after a protracted battle with an undisclosed illness.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi eulogized his former colleague as a man who served his people with diligence and fervor.

“I’ve received with sadness the news of the demise of my former colleague in the National Assembly and former North Imenti MP, Hon Silas Muriuki, who passed on today.

“The passing on of Hon. Muriuki is a big loss not only to his family, relatives, and close friends,” Linturi noted in his message that was published on X, formerly Twitter.

Friends of the former members of Congress sent their condolences and prayers to the Muriuki family.

Legislators, some of whom served alongside Muriuki during his tenure as an MP, were among those who shared their statements.

“To the people of North Imenti, Meru County at large, friends and family of Former Imenti North Member of Parliament Hon. Silas Muriuki Ruteere and the Methodist Church in Kenya, we mourn a legend who served the community diligently,” Mutua Alfred stated.

Muriuki served as the MP for North Imenti between 2007 and 2013, during which time he worked closely with former President Mwai Kibaki.

In 1955, he was born in Imenti, Meru County. He attended Meru High School and pursued economics at the University of Nairobi. After receiving his degree, he worked as a teacher and then as an entrepreneur.

During his tenure in the legislature, he served on the Finance, Planning, and Trade Committee. In addition, he presided over the Meru County Assembly Service Board.

In the 2017 general election, Muriuki lost his seat to Abdul Rahim Dawood. In 2022, he passed away at the age of 67.

Muriuki’s contributions to infrastructure initiatives, such as the construction of roads and schools, have been commemorated.

Additionally, he is remembered for his support of education and endeavors to advance peace and unity in Meru County.
