Former Governor Waititu Accuses President Ruto of Orchestrating Attacks on Deputy President Gachagua

On Thursday, former Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu made a bold claim that President William Ruto is the mastermind behind the attacks on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

During an interview, Waititu asserted that Ruto was leveraging certain party leaders to create disorder in the Mt Kenya region.

Waititu argued that this strategy was designed to prevent any leader from the area from gaining the full support of the significant voting bloc if they decided to run for president in 2027.

“We’ve learned our lesson. Never again will we support anyone outside our region. People have realized this outsider (Ruto) came to divide us,” he stated.

He further claimed that the leaders being used were merely trying to stay in the President’s favor, adding, “They are following Ruto’s agenda to please him.”

Waititu suggested that Ruto chose his running mates based on who would be easier to control and follow his directions.

To support his argument, Waititu mentioned that he, along with former governors Kiraitu Murungi of Meru and Francis Kimemia of Nyandarua, were initially promised the position before Ruto changed his mind and selected Gachagua.

Moreover, he warned the unnamed leaders that they would face a similar outcome when the circumstances shifted. Waititu stressed the importance of unity among leaders from the region.

“We need to rally behind a single candidate in the next election. This candidate must grasp the mandate and the reasons behind our support,” he stressed.

The former governor contended that if the region had elected a leader who prioritized their interests, the residents would not be experiencing issues with demolitions, taxes, or bans.

He added that this situation should be a lesson to all Mt Kenya residents and their leaders to always stand united.

“We should never insult former President Uhuru Kenyatta again like we did some time back because he is one of our own,” he added.

Notably, DP Gachagua has been on the receiving end of criticism after he backed the ‘one man one shilling’ agenda.
