Former Clerk Shot Dead by Police in Suspected Case of Mistaken Identity
Former Siaya County Assembly Clerk, Felix Isaac Olwero, was tragically shot dead by police outside his Whitehouse Resort in Seme, Kisumu County, on Monday morning in what is being described as a case of mistaken identity.
The 50-year-old businessman, who owned the resort, had reportedly rushed to check on a possible break-in when police officers mistook him for one of the suspects and opened fire.
Police said officers from Kombewa Police Station had been called to the scene by the resortโs manager, Sandra Okech, after she raised an alarm about intruders.
When the officers arrived, they sealed off the back section of the property. Shortly after, they spotted about six men coming out of a nearby thicket, allegedly armed with pangas and crude weapons.
According to the police report, one of the men charged toward them, forcing an officer to shoot. It later emerged that the man killed was actually Olwero himself, who had gone outside to assess the situation.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents and Olweroโs family, who say the shooting was careless and unnecessary. They are demanding answers and accountability from the authorities.
Police have confirmed that a formal investigation is underway. Olweroโs body was taken to Kombewa Sub-County Referral Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem will be carried out.
Olwero, who was well-known in both Siaya and Kisumu counties, has left behind shocked friends, family, and colleagues. Police have not yet confirmed whether any of the actual suspects behind the attempted break-in were arrested.
This is not the first time Olwero has made headlines. In May 2024, the Siaya County Assembly voted unanimously to remove him from office over allegations of gross misconduct, violation of the Constitution, and misbehaviour.
