Final Uhuru Appointees Axed in Major Govt Shake-Up
President William Ruto has replaced several Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s appointees with new ones.
Engineer Simon Nganga, Hassan Ahamednur Baricha, Jared Mekenye Ongwae, and Lydia Boke Marwa were appointed to the Water Resource Authority’s Board of Directors on Friday, July 28. The Water Resource Authority is tasked with regulating and managing water resources.
The appointees were requested to begin their three-year terms on Friday, July 28, 2023.
Similarly, the President revoked the appointments of former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s appointees Bernard K. Njoroge, Stephen Oluoch, George Wambugu, and John Thuku.
In addition, Ruto appointed Lucy Waruingi as the chairperson of the Wildlife Conservation Trust Fund’s governing board. Waruingi’s three-year term will begin on Wednesday, July 26.
The Gazette Notice stated, in part, “In exercise of the powers conferred by section 23 (2) (a) of the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces, appoint Lucy Waruingi as the Chairperson of the Governing Board of the Wildlife Conservation Trust Fund.”
President Ruto cited Section 7 (3) of the State Corporations Act, which authorized him to make the adjustments, including dismissing those appointed by the previous administration and not renewing expired contracts.

Similarly, Ruto’s confidants actively reshaped the government landscape by employing new faces.
Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen reconstituted the Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority board, which oversees the development of an efficient, effective, and sustainable public transportation system in the city, in a separate notice.
Murkomen appointed Anna Robai, Dominic Kipkoech, and Annastacia Mumbua as Board Directors of Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority in a Gazette Notice dated Friday, July 28.
They will be responsible for evaluating and implementing policies that will modernize transportation in Nairobi and its environs for the next three years.
Aquatic CS Patrick Musili was transferred by Alice Wahome from Athi Water Works Development Agency, where he served as chairman of the board of directors, to the Kenya Water Institute, where he will serve as chairman of the governing council.
Musili will serve a three-year term beginning on August 7, 2023.
