Fierce Govt Critic from KANU Abducted, Party Says
The Kenya African National Union (KANU) on Tuesday confirmed that Cornelius Ronoh, a digital communications officer working with the political outfit had been abducted.
In an official statement, the party communicated that Ronoh was abducted on Monday evening in Fedha, Embakasi East in Nairobi County.
The party communicated that the junior official was kidnapped outside a barber shop he patronizes near Nyayo Gate B located within the Fedha area.
“We’ve received a report this morning that Mr. Cornelius Ronoh, who serves our party as a digital communications officer, was brazenly abducted last evening outside the barber shop he patronizes near Nyayo Gate B in Fedha, Embakasi East,” Nyainda Manasse confirmed.
The party speculated that Rohoh, an active commentator on political affairs within the country was targeted for his online commentary.
The Gideon Moi-led party linked the abduction to the recent waves of kidnappings in the country.
“The proliferation of gangland-style kidnappings of young people articulating public policy issues affecting them through digital spaces herald a grim future for the rule of law in this country,”
“This desperate attempt to instill fear in the public and silence dissent is unwarranted, uncalled for, and has no place in our nation,” the party communicated,”

As such, KANU communicated that it had engaged its lawyers and tasked them with reporting and pursuing the matter at the nearest police station in Embakasi East.
“We unequivocally call on the authorities to produce Mr. Ronoh in any court of competent jurisdiction to stand trial if he is deemed to have committed any offense under the law,” Manasse Nyainda, the Director of Communications stated.
This comes even as more kidnappings continue to be reported across the country. Just last month, an activist and two brothers were released after being abducted in Kitengela by unknown men and held for over a month in an unknown location.
Human rights groups have been calling on the government to be accountable insisting the State has a cardinal responsibility to protect its citizens.
President William Ruto has however claimed that he is unaware of any kidnappings taking place in the country.
Lobby groups have also piled on the government over what they describe as underreporting statistics on victims of police brutality and failing to come clean on abductions.
