Ahmed Hassan Issack, the former Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has been selected as one of just 41 candidates shortlisted for the role of a judge at the Court of Appeal.
Chief Justice Martha Koome, acting as the head of the Judicial Service Commission, announced a reduced list of shortlisted candidates after the commission had received applications from 82 individuals.
Wafula Chebukati, the former chairperson of the IEBC, applied but was not included in the list of shortlisted candidates.
Among those shortlisted are Hassan, alongside justices Chacha Mwita, Athony Murima, Grace Nzioka, James Wakiaga, and Dalmas Omondi.
“The JSC having reviewed the application for completeness and conformity with the requirements as set out in the advertisement, shortlisted 41 candidates,” read the notice in part.
Koome has issued a public notice inviting feedback from the public on the behavior of the selected candidates. Comments should be submitted by May 13, 2024.
The interviews for the selected candidates will begin on June 3 at 9:00 am and end on the afternoon of June 20.

The application process ended on February 29, and the assessment of the 82 submitted applications began.
Chebukati became the IEBC Chairperson in 2017 and stepped down soon after supervising the 2022 General Election.
Hassan held the position of IEBC Chairperson from November 2011 until October 6, 2016.
