Ex-CS Henry Rotich  Snubs Ruto’s Advisory Role Offer

Henry Rotich, the ex-Treasury Cabinet Secretary, has rejected a job proposal extended to him by President William Ruto.

President Ruto had designated Rotich as the Senior Adviser responsible for matters related to fiscal affairs and budget policy.

The scheduling of the appointment was communicated through a letter issued by Felix Koskei, the Head of the Public Service.

However, when talking to Gossipa2z on Friday, the ex-CS mentioned that he would not accept the position.

Rotich expressed confidence that his experience at the Central Bank of Kenya, where he has worked for an extended period, positions him to contribute significantly to the country if he is assigned there.

“I thank the president for appointing me to be among his advisers. I, however, think I’d be of better service to the country if I go back to CBK where I worked for many years, “ said Rotich.

If he chooses to be stationed at CBK, he will work under Kamau Thugge, his former subordinate. Kamau Thugge held the position of Treasury PS during Rotich’s tenure as PS.

Rotich, formerly in charge of Macroeconomics at the Treasury and later appointed as a Cabinet Secretary in 2013, was removed from his role on January 14, 2020, due to his involvement as an accused party in a court case.

Ukur Yatani assumed the role until the point when Njuguna Ndung’u was appointed as the Treasury Cabinet Secretary by Ruto in 2022.

In December 2023, Rotich’s charges related to specific violations of procurement and public finance management laws were dismissed by the court due to insufficient evidence.

Magistrate Eunice Nyutu stated that there was insufficient evidence to justify requiring the accused individuals, including him, to present their defense.

“All the accused persons in this case are hereby acquitted under section 210 due to lack of evidence as a result of the reckless dereliction of duty by the prosecution,” the magistrate said.

Rotich earned a Master’s degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Sociology from the University of Nairobi.
