Evasive Suspect Outsmarts Police in Home Raid
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers tracked a notorious robbery suspect to his home in Meru County, but he evaded capture.
DCI revealed in a report released on Tuesday that the suspect was a member of a three-man gang responsible for a succession of violent robberies across the county.
At a Meru residence, officers cornered the gang, resulting in the apprehension of two suspects. However, one was able to flee through a concealed entrance on one side of the wooden house.
The detectives were perplexed by the suspect’s audacious escape plan because they had thoroughly searched the home without locating the escape route.
Despite this, the apprehended suspects were detained for further interrogation while officers launched a manhunt for the fugitive and the remaining gang members.
DCI stated, “The suspect and his gang members are still at large, but it’s only a matter of time before the detective pounces as the No Guns for Gangs operation intensifies.”
DCI lamented that the suspects were accused of, among other offenses, robbing residents at gunpoint and assaulting their victims.

They were also linked to a nighttime robbery at a local gas station, where they beat the employees, bound them, and fled with Ksh57,000 and a safe box containing an unknown quantity of cash.
In addition, they were accused of shooting a boda driver while attempting to hijack a vehicle. After battling for his bike, which was also a target, the motorcyclist was fortunate to survive.
According to the DCI, the trio was also sought for multiple felonies pending before the courts in Meru, Githongo, and Nanyuki. Included among the felonies were homicide, robbery, attempted defilement, and burglary.
Two of the suspects were previously detained at the Meru GK Prison on charges of armed robbery and homicide but were released on bond.
DCI recovered two vehicles used by the suspects to travel across the country during the Tuesday operation.
It also cautioned the public against interacting with or harboring the suspect, who is armed and dangerous, and urged them to instead report his location to the appropriate investigative agencies.
