Emotional Moment as Jowie’s Mother Watches Police Uncuff Him Ahead of Sentencing

Friday, March 8, marked the day when Joseph Irungu, also known as Jowie, was scheduled to receive his sentence following his conviction for the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani.

    Monica Kimani’s murder

Kimani was discovered in a bathtub at her residence in Lamuria Gardens on September 19, 2018, which resulted in the apprehension of Jowie and his former partner, journalist Jacque Maribe.

On Friday, February 9, Judge Grace Nzioka of the High Court rendered a verdict that found Jowie guilty and cleared Maribe of charges.

Justice Nzioka concluded that the prosecution had convincingly demonstrated Jowie’s guilt in Kimani’s murder after carefully considering testimony from both the prosecution and defense witnesses.

She mentioned that the prosecution had effectively established the presence of the accused at the crime scene, and additional forensic examinations such as DNA tests had unequivocally connected Jowie to Kimani’s tragic demise.

In court, Jowie’s demeanor visibly shifted to one of sorrow as the verdict, finding him guilty, was handed down.

Despite the apparent disintegration of circumstances, Jowie’s family remained steadfast in their support during his turbulent times.

His sister was visibly distraught, tears streaming down her face upon learning that her brother was destined for prison.

Justice Nzioka decreed the revocation of Jowie’s bail, resulting in his detention until Friday, March 8, when his verdict would be announced.

On the day of the sentencing, Jowie appeared composed. However, the sentencing has been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 13, 2024.

His presence in court with his mother highlighted her deep affection for her son during a crucial moment when his need for her support was paramount.

A touching image depicted Jowie’s mother gazing affectionately at her son while engaging in conversation as police officers, who had escorted him to court, removed his handcuffs.

The image depicted the formidable resilience of a woman and the genuine and almost limitless affection of mothers.
