Eldoret Cop Fired 11 Shots at Husband in Defense of Children- Witness

Lilian Biwott, the police officer who used 11 bullets to shoot her husband, had argued with him after he threatened their children, a court in Eldoret heard.

The couple had been in an argument for over an hour before Biwott fired, killing him in their bedroom.

Biwott pleaded not guilty to the murder of her husband, Victor Kipchumba, on October 14, 2023.

She is facing a murder charge before Justice Reuben Nyakundi at the High Court in Eldoret.

Their housekeeper, Sharon Jepchirchir, a key witness, described how the couple argued on the phone before Biwott returned home that night.

Kipchumba was at their home in the Kimumu Estate while Biwott was on night duty.

Jepchirchir, who was sleeping in a nearby room, overheard the couple’s phone argument.

“After a while, Biwott returned and asked me to open the door for her. She was in full uniform and had a gun,” Jepchirchir stated.

She said Biwott then went into their bedroom, while she returned to her room, where she heard the couple argue again for more than an hour.

“After about one hour, I heard a loud bang in their room and went to check, finding Biwott leaving. I followed her out, but she left,” she testified.

During cross-examination by lawyer Oscar Oduor, representing Biwott, the housekeeper stated that she heard the man threaten to kill their children in anger during the argument.

She mentioned that the couple often argued, and Kipchumba frequently carried kitchen knives around the house.

Additionally, she disclosed that Kipchumba used to try to seduce her and invite her to their bedroom at night when Biwott was not around.

“He would sometimes call me at night and ask me to come to their bedroom when Biwott was away,” Jepchirchir said.

She added that she told Biwott about these incidents, which led to more arguments between the couple.

Jepchirchir said that Biwott had been a good employer to her and was always generous.

She had worked with the couple for over six months before the incident.

Jepchirchir gave her testimony under the guidance of State counsel Mark Mugun.

Oduor requested the court to consider his client’s application for release on bond pending the case hearing.

Justice Nyakundi scheduled the next hearing for the following week.
