EACC Raids Urban Planning Director Fredrick Ochanda’s Home In Graft Probe

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has initiated a specific raid targeting Fredrick Ondari Ochanda, a high-ranking government official.

Ochanda, who is the Assistant Director in charge of Development Control for the Built Environment and Urban Planning, is under investigation for suspected corruption and fraud.

The raid took place on Friday and covered several areas, including Ochanda’s homes in Ngong, Kajiado County, and Suneka, Kisii County, as well as his offices in Nairobi County Government.

Following court orders, the EACC carried out the operation effectively, taking Ochanda to their headquarters for questioning.

After completing the interrogation and statement recording, Ochanda was released.

The Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act of 2003 allows for the confiscation of assets obtained through corruption. According to the EACC, any public officer possessing property that doesn’t align with their known legitimate income sources will be assumed to have obtained it through corruption unless proven otherwise.

The investigation focuses on Ochanda’s alleged engagement in corrupt activities within his department, potentially leading to compromised standards in development control approvals in Nairobi.

The EACC, through spokesperson Eric Ngumbi, underscored the seriousness of the accusations, noting that Ochanda’s accumulated wealth far exceeds his known legitimate income.

The assets being investigated include cash in various bank accounts, valuable land, commercial properties, and luxury cars. The EACC believes these assets may be tied to corrupt practices, prompting the inquiry to verify their origins.
