EACC Nabs Fake NIS Officer Scamming Millions from Top Politicians

Saturday marked the apprehension of an individual apprehended by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). The fraudster had been operating under the guise of a senior officer of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) and defrauding millions of corruption suspects, including prominent politicians.

The agency revealed that the impersonator had a prior record of conflicts with law enforcement and was the subject of investigations by numerous agencies in a statement.

The deceitful NIS officer fabricated evidence of his association with the EACC, wherein he claimed participation in cases that involved high-ranking officials.

By approaching these individuals and reassuring them that he could eliminate their cases, he was insinuating that he played a crucial role in the ongoing investigations.

According to reports, the individual asserted that he had strong connections with prominent law enforcement officials who were in charge of decision-making at different agencies.

In exchange for assisting the aforementioned suspects, the impostor would demand payment in the millions.

“The suspect dupes his victims, mostly high-ranking officials, into believing that he has top-notch connections with heads of key security and law enforcement agencies in the country and that by a single phone call, he can “cause many things to happen,” read the statement in part.

“He has been contacting his victims claiming to be investigating very sensitive matters and has information that incriminates them. He then demands millions of money from the victims to assist them out of trouble.”

In response to citizen complaints, EACC detectives located and apprehended the individual at a nightclub situated along Thika Road.

The sham NIS officer will face legal charges once the investigations have been concluded.

Conversely, it was observed that comparable occurrences had been increasing, and Kenyans were cautioned to exercise vigilance in that regard.

Individuals who encounter comparable circumstances were strongly encouraged to report them via the toll-free number (551), or the email address of the agency (report@integrity.go.ke).
