Driver’s Blunder That Caused 5-Vehicle Accident & 10 Deaths Along Sultan Hamud-Salama Stretch
Mukaa Sub-County Police Commander Barnabas Ng’eno on Monday, April 1, stated that a truck driver’s reckless driving had caused the death of 10 people in a late-night accident that happened at Mombasa Road between Sultan Hamud and Salama Towns.
The police commander revealed that the truck driver was heading towards Mombasa from Nairobi when he hit an 18-seater matatu.
The accident set in motion a series of collisions that saw five vehicles crash. The incident led to the death of 10 people and scores injured.
“The driver failed to keep to his proper lane and also made a sudden right turn without due care and attention resulting in a head-on collision with another vehicle,” Ng’eno stated.
After the collision, the busy highway got blocked causing other vehicles to hit the now two stationary vehicles.
Another truck hit the two vehicles and thereafter, a saloon car came crashing into the pile.

It was also reported another 14-seater matatu crashed into the accident scene.
Speaking to Gossipa2z.com, moments after the accident, Makueni County County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Department of Health Services Dr Paul Musila revealed that at least 17 people were rushed to hospital immediately after the accident.
Makueni County Government was credited for preventing more fatalities due to quick response to the accident scene.
Ambulances were promptly dispatched with the injured rushed to Sultan Hamud Hospital.
Nine people were reported to have died on the spot while one child passed on while receiving treatment.
The Mlima Kiu area where the accident occurred is known as a blackspot with the Ministry of Transport urged to implement measures to prevent further tragedies.
