Drama In Parliament As Wetangula and Wandayi Clash
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula rebuked Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi on Wednesday following Wandayi’s critique of the government regarding the Tuesday arrest of Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang’o.
During his speech in the House, Wandayi asserted that Nyakang’o is being singled out for revealing widespread corruption in the government and her firm opposition to the misappropriation of public funds.
Nevertheless, in response to the assertion, Wetang’ula cautioned the Member of Parliament, stating that such remarks were sub-judice and directly affected a case currently in court.
“This is a matter before the court, and what you are saying now is likely to undermine the integrity of the case, including the case of the person you are defending.”
During his comments, the Member of Parliament criticized the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), alleging that the incumbent in that position didn’t guarantee adherence to the law during Nyakango’s arrest.

The Minority leader emphasized in his remarks to the assembly that all citizens of Kenya possess rights, highlighting the responsibility of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to ensure that any individual facing criminal charges must have those charges substantiated by sufficient evidence before being taken to court.
Nevertheless, Wetang’ula halted Wandayi’s progress, cautioning him that he was overstepping boundaries.
The Speaker additionally cautioned the remaining members of the house to refrain from following the course chosen by the leader of the minority.
Ainakboi MP, Chepkonga Kiprono, alleged that the Minority Leader was providing misleading information to the assembly by choosing to interpret the law selectively.

The member additionally alleged that the minority leader had shirked their duty to exhibit leadership while presiding over proceedings in the house.
