DP Gachagua Threatens to Withdraw Support from Betraying Politicians Ahead of 2027 Election: ‘You Will Need Me”
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a warning to certain unnamed Mount Kenya politicians, claiming they have been conspiring to undermine him. He stated he would withdraw his support for them in the upcoming 2027 General Election.
In his speech on Saturday at the memorial for the late David Chepkwony, who was married to Njoro MP Charity Kathambi, Mr. Gachagua indicated that although he expects his political rivals to seek his support in 2027, he plans to ignore their attempts.
He criticized several leaders he helped elect in the previous General Election, accusing them of betrayal and scheming against him.
Mr. Gachagua expressed frustration over how those he assisted have now turned against him, questioning their loyalty and actions.
Despite the challenges, he pointed out that elections occur every five years and that he will only back those who currently support him. He mentioned one individual who even questioned why he did not acknowledge their work during his constituency visits.
The Deputy President elaborated on the theme of betrayal and deception in politics, particularly within the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition, sharing his experiences of disloyalty from those he helped.
Mr. Gachagua lamented the tendency of politicians to forget the assistance they received once they attained their positions.

Nonetheless, he assured me he would continue collaborating with leaders dedicated to serving the public.
These comments come amid internal conflicts within the ruling coalition and perceived tensions between President William Ruto and Mr. Gachagua.
The Deputy President has faced ongoing criticism from allies of the President, who he accuses of undermining his efforts to unite the Mount Kenya region.
Recently, former UDA Secretary General Cleopas Malala alleged that senior party officials, including Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, were behind plans to impeach Mr. Gachagua.
Malala labeled his removal as “illegal,” asserting that the plan was to remove him first before targeting Gachagua for impeachment.
On a different note, Mr. Gachagua recently launched the Charity Kathambi Chepkwony Foundation in honor of the late Chepkwony’s charitable work.
He praised the family for preserving the deceased’s legacy and donated Sh1 million, along with Sh3 million from President Ruto, to the foundation.
