DP Gachagua Remains Bullish on Mt.Kenya Kingpin Rhetoric
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asserted his stronghold as the Mt. Kenya region’s leader, confidently stating that he cannot be removed from his position in the Kenya Kwanza government.
Speaking in Kagumo, Kirinyaga, on Saturday, Gachagua dismissed political rumors suggesting that he has lost favor with President William Ruto and could be ousted by the ruling government. He emphasized that he was elected alongside President Ruto and will serve his full term, urging those spreading these rumors to remain silent and allow for progress.
“Who is the leader of this region? We are focused on development,” Gachagua remarked.
“We respect our leaders, and we respect you because you elected us. I was your running mate. I’ve seen some leaders stirring up baseless debates, and I’m urging members of parliament to stop it. If I’m not complaining, who else should be? Let them cease,” Gachagua added.
President Ruto, on his part, reiterated his government’s commitment to transforming the country’s economic landscape. He highlighted the creation of a broad-based government as a key strategy for fostering national unity.

This inclusive government approach led to the appointment of four opposition-aligned members to Ruto’s Cabinet during his second round of Cabinet selections, following the dismissal of the initial team amid public discontent over perceived government inefficiency.
“As you can see, I’m joined by Hassan Joho, the new Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs, as well as Salim Mvurya, the Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade, and Industry,” Ruto noted.
During his tour of Kirinyaga, Ruto inaugurated the construction of the Sagana Special Economic Zone/County Aggregation and Industrial Park and visited the Sagana Fisheries Research Institute.
He also launched the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project in Kang’aru, commissioned the Kiangùngù TVET College in Kirinyaga Central, and later initiated the construction of the Baricho-Kagumo-Gathuthuma-Kangaita Road.
