DP Gachagua Back in Spotlight as Mt Kenya Leaders Clash
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is once again embroiled in a political storm, highlighting the fragile nature of alliances within Kenya’s ruling coalition.
Accusations of tribalism and attempts to undermine President William Ruto’s leadership have fueled a growing divide, with Gachagua’s supporters and critics locked in a fierce battle.
Key political figures have begun taking sides, exchanging heated words, and publicly targeting the Deputy President.
The latest chapter in this ongoing conflict was sparked by Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa, a close ally of Ruto and the Majority Leader in the National Assembly.
Speaking at a fundraiser in his Kikuyu Constituency, Ichung’wah accused Gachagua of secretly plotting to limit President Ruto’s tenure to a single term.
Ichungโwah suggested that Gachagua was strategically weakening Ruto’s political influence, especially in the crucial Mt Kenya region, to position himself for the presidency.
These claims tap into longstanding fears of political betrayal and instability, echoing previous instances of collapsing alliances.

In response, Gachagua strongly denied the allegations, emphasizing his loyalty to both President Ruto and the Kenyan public.
“My loyalty lies with two entities: the people of Kenya and the President. I’ve always followed the President’s directives,” Gachagua declared during a tour in Nyeri and Kirinyaga counties on Sunday.
He also expressed frustration, claiming his allies were being unfairly targeted by security forces for political reasons.
His comments reflect his demand for respect for his position and his rejection of what he views as undue interference from presidential aides and other officials.
Gachagua’s allies have rallied behind him, defending his integrity and accusing certain government figures of attempting to destabilize the Deputy President.
Embakasi North MP James Gakuya and Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru have been especially vocal in their support for Gachagua.
