Gachagua’s ally and former Bahati MP, Kimani Ngunjiri, has criticized President William Ruto, urging him not to appoint a deputy president from Central Kenya to prevent further political division in the region.

Speaking on K24 TV on Monday morning, Ngunjiri, who hails from Nakuru, noted that the ongoing impeachment process against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has placed the country in a difficult position.

“My plea is for unity. I urge President Ruto, regarding the deputy president’s position, as it appears to be the source of issues in the Central region. If Gachagua is removed, please do not allocate that seat to Central again,” Ngunjiri said.

He also highlighted the dire economic situation in the country, emphasizing that Kenyans should be focusing on finding solutions for national progress instead of dwelling on the impeachment process.

“We’ve abandoned discussions on other important matters to focus on this impeachment. We should be addressing critical national issues, such as the situation at the airport and the Social Health Authority (SHA),” he remarked.

Ngunjiri accused the government of using the impeachment motion to distract from pressing issues facing the nation.

“Instead of centering our attention on an individual, we need to discuss significant matters that impact the entire country,” he added.

The former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) member also criticized the ruling government for failing the people of Kenya, particularly the youth.

“We’re sending our people to other countries for employment rather than creating opportunities locally,” he expressed.

He further criticized the government’s efforts to create jobs through its projects, while at the same time encouraging young people to seek employment abroad, calling it misguided.

His comments came as Deputy President Gachagua prepared to appear before the National Assembly to defend himself against the impeachment charges.

Gachagua faces eleven accusations, including violating the Constitution, gross misconduct, and breaches of economic and international laws.
