Don’t drag Ruto’s name into Nyakang’o woes – Nyanza youths
A section of youths from the Nyanza region have told Gusii MPs to stop dragging President William Ruto’s name into the corruption allegations facing Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang’o.
The youths led by Chairman Joel Onyango and Secretary John Makori said it was wrong for the legislators to blame President Ruto over the alleged woes facing Nyakong’o.
“Why are these MPs quick to point an accusing finger at President Ruto yet we have the constitutional bodies charged with the responsibility of fighting corruption?” Makori asked.
They particularly took issue with Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi claiming he was too personal.
During the press conference by the eight MPs from the Gusii community at the Parliament Building on Tuesday, Kibagendi accused the government of being behind Nyakong’o’s woes.
Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba defended President Ruto against any wrongdoing.
She said Ruto meant well for the community and that it was only some shadowy individuals who were out to create a wedge between the President and the Gusii people.
The youths further asked Kibagendi to familiarize himself with Kenya’s constitution and come to terms with the fact that there are bodies like EACC, DCI, and the judiciary whose work is to fight corruption.

“Even if Ruto might have differed with him in one way or the other on political matters, Kibagendi should not go that personal on him. He should remember where he came from and that there is tomorrow,” he added.
The youths also hit out at the MPs over claims that President Ruto wants a political war with the Gusii community yet they have a cabinet Secretary from the region among other senior government officials appointed by the Head of State.
The youths argued that the hullabaloo by the leaders was not about the woes facing Nyakang’o but politics in Gusii land where President Ruto was gaining popularity.
“These MPs have realized that the steps the President is taking to fix the economy will soon yield fruits and deny opposition leader Raila Odinga votes in the area during the next general election,” Makori said.
The youths alleged the majority of elected Gusii leaders were facing hostile reception in their respective constituencies and that’s why they want to hide behind the Nyakang’o issue to regain popularity at the grassroots.
The youths wondered why the MPs were politicizing the war against corruption, making it a community affair.
They told the MPs to go to court and challenge the matter instead of making unnecessary noise to portray a situation in which they are working for their community.
