DNA: Obado 99.99% Likely Father of Sharon Otieno’s Child, Court Hears
In a new development during the trial of former Migori Governor Okoth Obado and two others accused in the 2018 murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno, recent DNA evidence indicates with near certainty (99.99%) that the former governor fathered the deceased’s unborn child.
A prosecution witness from a Cyber Crime Investigations sub-unit within the DCI’s Serious Crime Unit shared this finding with Justice Cecilia Githua at the Milimani High Court on Tuesday.
“The witness informed the court that DNA test results showed a 99.99% certainty that Okoth Obado was the father of Sharon Otieno’s unborn child,” the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) stated on X.
Moreover, the witness provided photographic evidence from the crime scene and noted that investigations confirmed both Obado and his then-personal assistant, Michael Oyamo, were familiar with Sharon.

The witness added that Sharon was approximately seven months pregnant when she died.
A post-mortem on Sharon revealed that she and her unborn child died due to severe bleeding from sharp force trauma and abdominal trauma caused by a sharp object.
“The deceased’s body clearly showed signs of pregnancy and visible knife wounds on the left side near the heart,” the ODPP reported.
The testimony also implicated the third accused, Caspal Obiero, in the murder, stating that he rented the car used by the perpetrator to meet Sharon.
“It was also revealed that he (Obiero) had a part in obtaining falsified medical records from Kisii Referral Hospital,” the ODPP noted.
The trial is set to resume on Wednesday.
