The leaders expressed their commitment to deepening the bilateral relationship shortly, according to a statement from Egyptโs State Information Service.
The heads of state called for joint efforts to achieve stability, security, and development across Africa, including tackling challenges like violence and political instability. They also stressed the importance of maintaining their historical ties and roles in addressing continental issues.
This call followed a planned visit by President Ruto to Egypt in June, which was canceled after his South Korea trip, with the reasons for the change remaining undisclosed.
Ruto was set to participate in discussions aimed at fostering peace in conflict-affected regions such as Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Sudan.
At that time, Kenya was experiencing widespread protests demanding accountability and austerity measures from the President and his administration. In response, Ruto suspended all non-essential travel to conserve public resources and reduce waste.
