Details of Note That Was Found Inside Moi’s Bible
Former President Daniel Arap Moi died in 2020, but his 24-year leadership impact in Kenya is profoundly ingrained in the country’s history.
Following his death, several previously undisclosed facts about him were revealed, including his strong Christian beliefs.
A scrap of paper slipped between the pages of his Bible, which was uncovered after nearly two decades.
The note, which had been switched from one of his older Bibles to a newer one, included an unsettling message that the former President could have lived by.
“Step by step, step by step I will follow Jesus, every day all the way, I will follow Jesus,” read the note, reflecting words inspired by Genesis 28:17.
Titled Gate of Heaven, the note was written during a church service at the Kabarak Chapel on May 8, 2005.
In addition to the text, Moi included personal insights on 2 Timothy 3:10, titled The Joy of Knowing Christ.
Moi kept the message in his Bible for nearly two decades before he died in 2020.

On February 4, 2020, then-President Uhuru Kenyatta confirmed Moi’s death, signaling the end of an era.
“It is with profound sadness and sorrow that I announce the passing of a great African statesman, H.E. Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, the second President of the Republic of Kenya,” the announcement read.
Although his government from 1978 to 2002 is widely considered autocratic, he was remembered as a President who prioritized education and environmental conservation.
He is also remembered for keeping the country relatively stable throughout periods of strife with neighboring countries.
