Deputy President Gachagua Vows to Stay in Government Amid Calls for Resignation
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asserted his commitment to serving in the Kenya Kwanza government despite demands for his resignation.
During an event in Murang’a County, the Deputy President emphasized his dedication to the current administration and his refusal to be ousted from President William Ruto’s government.
Gachagua cited the significant support President Ruto received from the Mt Kenya region in the last elections as the reason for his place in the government.
He urged leaders, especially those from Northern Kenya, to back the government without calling for his removal.
The Deputy President was addressing demands from some Northern Kenya leaders for his resignation following his comments about National Intelligence Service (NIS) boss Noordin Haji.
“Please, come slow. They are telling us that we should leave this government. This is our government. From this region, we gave 47 percent.”
“You cannot come and tell me how to do my job. My role is to be on the ground and advise the president. You should join us, not replace us,” Gachagua said.

He reiterated his commitment to being truthful in his duties, stating that he could not deceive his boss.
Gachagua emphasized the importance of transparency to help President Ruto govern effectively.
“The best way to advise the President is truthfully and honestly. Listening to Kenyans, who are our employers, is also crucial. I am confident things will stabilize soon,” he added.
Gachagua has faced criticism recently for his stance on Haji’s performance.
He attributed the government’s unpreparedness for the anti-Finance Bill protests to the NIS’s failure to provide timely reports.
Leaders from Northern and Coastal Kenya have accused the Deputy President of unfairly targeting Haji.
โGachagua has chosen to publicly discuss national security issues, turning it into personal attacks against Noordin Haji. These inappropriate statements violate the solemn oath he took,โ stated Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sherrif Nassir.
