Dennis Itumbi Spills Beans on Phone Chat With Uhuru About Ruto

Digital Strategist Dennis Itumbi recalled a phone conversation with former Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday.

Itumbi claimed in a Friday interview on TV47’s WabebeXP that Uhuru called him out for supporting the current chief of state, William Ruto, and threatened to ‘crush him’.

According to the journalist and Ruto’s confidant, the phone call in 2018 caught him off guard, further disturbing his serenity and well-being.

According to reports, Uhuru wanted him to stop associating with Ruto and visiting the DP’s home in Karen and the Harambee Annex office.

Itumbi, who had just left a funeral in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, parked his car on the side of the road to communicate with Uhuru, who had just signed a gentleman’s agreement with opposition leader Raila Odinga in what is famously known as the handshake.

“He told me to let the phone remain on hold. I was still in Mwea, where I had parked the car for 10 minutes. He spoke again when I was in Pangani and told me he would crush me,” Itumbi claimed, adding that Uhuru sought clarification on why he supported Ruto rather than the government’s agenda.

Itumbi expressed his concerns and asked the president to explain why he should not support Ruto.

“From the first time we spoke in Mwea, and the time we spoke in Pangani, his demeanour had changed,” Itumbi told Willis Raburu, TV47 journalist and WabebeXP host.

Upon arriving in Nairobi, the digital strategist reportedly went directly to Ruto’s office to determine if he had lost Uhuru’s favor.

Ruto stated, however, that he was still in contact with Uhuru and refrained from disclosing any additional information that could have jeopardized his relationship with the head of state.

However, their relationship deteriorated a few months later as the consequences of their actions became apparent.

After persisting in collaborating with Ruto, Itumbi was fired from his State House position. He would converse with the former president despite this.

“The person who stopped communicating is Uhuru. Since he was the president and I was just a guy in this town trying to make a living, it was up to him to give me a call should he decide to.

“Unlike Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah, I have not blocked him. If he calls, I will pick up but I am not desperate,” he stated.

Uhuru has yet to comment on the digital strategist’s claims.

Refusing State House Vehicle

During the interview, the digital strategist revealed that while working at the White House, he turned down a vehicle and bodyguard offered by Uhuru.

Itumbi claimed he was entitled to the benefits based on his prominent position in the defunct Uhuru communication team. However, he believed that his life was not in danger because he had no enemies necessitating a bodyguard.

The digital strategist added that he also wished to maintain his private life without being monitored.

“I did not want to be chasing after a girl then I have security after me. I also felt that I did not have enemies,” he stated.
