Authorities from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have been advised to apprehend Kiambu governor Kimani Wamatangi.

At a public event, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwah and Thika town MP Alice Ng’ang’a accused some high-ranking county officials in Kiambu of misusing funds.

Alice Ng’ang’a specifically criticized Kiambu Governor Wamatangi for being behind the unlawful activities in the county.

The governor faced accusations based on a report from the Auditor General, which pointed out various inconsistencies in the Kiambu County government’s spending.

“I want the DCI and EACC to read the auditor general’s report and investigate what happened,” Ichungwah noted.

“Whether you are an MCA or a governor, your days are numbered and in Kimabu County, the days have finally come. Let EACC, and DCI take the report, do investigations, and arrest people,” Ichung’wah added.

The two MPs stated that the Auditor General pointed out multiple instances of misuse and suspected embezzlement of county funds.

The pair also wondered why the detectives had not pursued any charges against the governor, given the ample evidence regarding Wamatangi’s actions.

Auditor General Nacy Gathungu’s latest report highlighted various inconsistencies in the use of county funds by the Kiambu County government.

In the 2022/2023 report on County Governments County Executive, the Auditor General disclosed that the governor used Ksh18 million to buy 60,000 one-month-old chicks, with the full amount paid on April 20, 2023.

Despite the payment, the report showed that 37,500 chicks were not delivered. The cost of these undelivered chicks amounted to Ksh11.25 million.

The report raised concerns about the allocation of over Ksh81.8 million for buying certified seeds, breeding stock, live animals, and other related items.
