Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced on Friday the government’s intention to build a state-of-the-art railway connecting the Kenyan coast with the Atlantic Ocean, marking it as one of Africa’s longest railway endeavors.

Speaking at the launch of the Kenya Railway Strategic Plan (2023 to 2027), Murkomen emphasized the project’s alignment with Kenya’s economic aspirations.

Expressing his dedication to realizing this ambitious vision, Murkomen emphasized that the railway would bolster trade between Kenya and various international partners as it traverses multiple countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, ultimately terminating on the coast of Cameroon.

Murkomen articulated his belief in the transformative potential of robust infrastructure, stating, “I believe that Africa can be better connected if we invest in the necessary infrastructure to facilitate both interpersonal connections and business growth.”
