CS Kindiki Reveals Kenyans to be Prioritised Under Affordable Housing Program
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki announced on Monday, May 27, that Kenyans who were displaced from riparian areas due to ongoing floods will receive priority consideration in the Affordable Housing Program, as part of the government’s compensation efforts for the over 40,000 affected households.
Kindiki stated that those affected by the displacement orders will receive priority in the ongoing affordable housing initiative, according to a released statement.
Previously, NARC Party Leader Martha Karua had urged the government to allocate the houses to Kenyans whose residences were demolished in areas like Mathare.
Karua argued that since the houses were built using public funds, they should be utilized to assist those in need.
Furthermore, addressing the compensation process, CS Kindiki disclosed the deadline for flood-affected Kenyans to receive the promised Ksh10,000 from President William Ruto.

He mentioned that by Friday, May 31, all families affected by the floods would have received the financial aid, with 25,000 households already benefiting and the rest scheduled to receive theirs by the specified date.
Kindiki emphasized that during the demolition and relocation operations, security personnel have been instructed to refrain from using violence or mistreatment against residents.
He also clarified that affected households are permitted to retrieve their belongings from condemned structures before vacating.
Moreover, the CS highlighted the government’s plan to employ local labor for the demolition and relocation tasks, emphasizing community involvement.
According to Kindiki, the reclaimed riparian areas will undergo fencing, trenching, and afforestation, with recreational amenities to be established for public use, free of charge.
