Court Hands 3 Convicts 19-Year Jail Term for Attempting to Bomb Milimani Courts
Two individuals believed to be affiliated with Al-Shabaab and convicted of conspiring to carry out a bomb attack at the Milimani Law Courts in 2018 have each received a 19-year prison sentence.
On Thursday, Abadi Majit Hassan Adan and Mohammed Osman were convicted of nine charges related to terrorism.
Senior Principal Magistrate Zainabu Abdul delivered the judgment, stating that the seriousness of the accusations justified a mandatory imprisonment term of at least 25 years for every accused individual, with no chance of receiving a suspended sentence.
Abdul considered the six years the suspects had been held by the police, resulting in a shorter sentence of 19 years behind bars.
Furthermore, Lydia Nyambura Mburu, who was implicated along with the two suspects, was found guilty of fabricating an identification document and received a three-year prison sentence.

In February, Adan and Osman were convicted of possessing homemade explosive devices (IEDs), including seven projectile bombs, to carry out a terrorist attack.
The pair, part of the group of six individuals apprehended in Merti back in 2018 for transporting weapons to carry out an attack, have also been convicted for having 36 hand grenades and five designated firearms.
The court, nevertheless, absolved two individuals who were collectively charged alongside the suspects at the time of the arrest in 2018.
Anthony Kitila Makau and Francis Macharia Karishu were acquitted, whereas Nyambura was convicted of committing forgery.
In 2018, the group refuted any accusations of conspiring to assault court premises and freed Sheikh Guyo Gorsa, who was detained on charges related to terrorism.
The authorities asserted that the group of five individuals had plans to carry out an assault at the Milimani Chief Magistrateโs Court on February 16, coinciding with Mr. Gorsa’s court appearance for terrorism-related charges.
