Drama ensued at a liquor store along Lumumba Drive near TRM Mall in Kasarani after a team of officers drawn from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) arrested a police officer accused of soliciting bribes from traders

EACC officers stormed the shops following a tip-off from members of the public who accused the cop from Kasarani Police Station of frustrating their operations

In the dramatic event, the police officer could be seen resisting arrest by holding onto the liquor store rails while screaming at the top of his voice.

He further handcuffed himself to the rails forcing the EACC officer to circle in on him to remove the handcuffs. Some officers lifted him from the ground as others held him by the scruff in an attempt to arrest him.

All the while the police officer could be heard screaming ‘Kill me! Kill me! and lamenting that not only were his rights violated but he was also assaulted in the scuffle.

His cries however did not stop the EACC officers who forced him out of the liquor store into a waiting van which sped off to an unknown destination.

EACC in January this year, heightened its crackdown on police officers accused of corruption, from traffic police officers to those in offices and others at business premises.

Speaking on its recent operations, EACC chairperson Bishop David Oginde stated that they not only target police but also state officials accused of embezzling funds.

Among them were civil servants accused of landing state jobs by using fake or forged academic certificates.

“When the long arm of the law finally catches up with you, we shall recover all the money you got through that process,” Oginde warned on Monday, January 22, after meeting with Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o.

On Thursday, EACC detectives arrested Dolal Mohamed Mohamud, the Managing Director, of Garissa Water and Sewage Company who was accused of forging his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Certificate to secure admission for a university degree.
