Controversy at Funeral as Miguna Heckled for Raila Comments
Controversial attorney Miguna Miguna found himself between a rock and a hard place when a group of mourners heckled him for criticizing Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party, for “not embracing multiparty democracy.”
Dr. Miguna was addressing mourners at a funeral in Kasipul, Homa Bay County, on Monday when a crowd began jeering him for accusing Mr. Odinga of allegedly forcing the people of Nyanza into a one-party system.
Elly Omondi and his wife Emmaculate Aluoch died in a car accident on the Kisumu-Kisii highway. The attorney who had a falling out with the ODM leader was among the mourners at their funeral. Mr. Omondi worked for Kiwasco, the water supply company of Kisumu.
Dr. Miguna, who arrived at the funeral in Kong’ondo village shortly before 2:00 p.m., handed over the microphone to the master of ceremonies when the audience began to jeer at him.
He began his address in Dholuo and then transitioned to English. He subsequently brought the conflict between President William Ruto and Mr. Odinga to the funeral.

The attorney’s speech garnered support from the head of state.
“The name of the president is William Ruto. He is the president regardless of your opinion,” he said.
He then criticized the leader of the ODM, blaming Mr. Odinga for the political woes facing the people of Nyanza. According to him, the Luo community dislikes multiparty democracy, implying that ODM is their preferred political organization.
“We must accept multiparty democracy.” Raila fought for it and was imprisoned,” Dr. Miguna stated.
While he spoke, some individuals applauded while others made various noises, including blowing vuvuzelas.
He stated that fighting for multiparty democracy would enable Kenyans to enjoy the benefits of independence.
However, he claimed that due to Mr. Odinga, the Nyanza region is not reaping the benefits of independence.
“Due to Raila Amollo Odinga, the people of Nyanza are not currently enjoying the fruits of independence. Dr. Miguna declared, to boos from the mourners, “I have said it.”
Later, he handed over the microphone and left the podium.
As he departed, some of the mourners dared him to disparage Mr. Odinga.
“Raila ok mbasni. Kwenda kabisa (Raila is not your age mate. “Get away from me!” yelled a man.
“Do not speak negatively of Raila. Another shouted, “We are in pain, and you are making it worse.”
