Controversial Figure Miguna Excluded from Haji Replacement Shortlist

Miguna Miguna’s hopes of succeeding Noordin Haji were thwarted when she was omitted from the list of candidates for the position of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The outspoken attorney’s name was conspicuously absent from the shortlist of 15 candidates released by the Public Service Commission (PSC) on July 22.

The inclusion of city attorney Danstan Omari on the list is instructive. Other successful applicants included: Taib Ali Taib, Tabitha Wanyama, and David Kiplagat Ruto.

Also included on the list were Jacob Ondari, James Ndegwa, David Okachi, and Renson Ingonga.

Miguna had submitted his application to the PSC to replace Noordin Haji, who was appointed Director General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) last month.

He was one of 48 candidates who wanted to take over the Haji’s office.

Although the PSC did not provide the specific reasons why the attorney did not make the list, it was explained that the list of successful applicants was compiled after a thorough review of all applications.

Miguna expressed interest in replacing Haji on July 11, indicating that, if appointed, he would uphold the rule of law.

In response to online users who informed the attorney that he had missed out on the position, Miguna indicated that he was uninformed of the development.

“The panel had stated that they would publish all applicant identities before shortlisting, but it appears that this was not the case.

He tweeted, “Not being shortlisted or hired was a possible outcome of my application, and I have no regrets about applying.”

Beginning on August 1, successful applicants will confront the selection committee appointed by Ruto.

Francis Atwoli, secretary general of the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU), and Twalib Abdallah Mbarak, chairman of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), are notable members of the selection panel.
