Confusion As State House Staff Clash In Public

Economist David Ndii, serving as President William Ruto’s economic advisor at State House, had a disagreement with colleagues regarding the communication method for Cabinet resolutions during their clash on Thursday.

Ndii highlighted a report issued by the Presidential Communication Service (PCS) stating that on Wednesday, the Cabinet approved allocating Ksh66 billion (EUR 400 million) for the separation of power transmission lines and an additional Ksh200 billion (EUR 1.2 billion) for a solar power initiative.

The economist additionally claimed that the reporters working at the State House lacked the necessary qualifications to cover financial numbers.

โ€œKenyan journalists are atrocious at reporting figures even when they work for the government,โ€ Ndii stated.

He mentioned that even if the Kenya Kwanza government aimed to embezzle public money, they wouldn’t be as excessively greedy as anticipated.

Ndii mentioned that the Cabinet expressed the numbers in Shillings, yet the presidential communications team misunderstood the sum as being in Euros.

The economic advisor to the President was assigned the responsibility of elucidating how a solar project generating 42 megawatts could be constructed with a budget of 1.2 billion Kenyan shillings, as per his reasoning.

Ndii argued in defense that PCS might have completely misrepresented the Cabinet decisions.

โ€œIf they got the currency wrong, why do you assume the rest is correctly reported?โ€™ he stated.

In January, Ruto substituted the Presidential Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU) with PCS, overseen by approximately five senior staff members.

Included in the group are Munyori Buku serving as the Public Communications Secretary, David Nzioka in the role of Digital and Innovations Secretary, and Eric Ngeno as the Messaging Secretary.

Additional individuals in PCS comprise Wanjohi Githae, the Public Communications Director, and James Kinyua, serving as the Branding and Events Secretary.
