Concern as 33,000 Kenyans Scramble for 180 ODPP Jobs
9,355 Kenyan individuals are competing for a limited number of office assistant positions recently announced by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP).
On Tuesday, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) disclosed in local newspapers that it had posted 20 job openings for office assistants as part of its larger recruitment initiative involving 186 positions throughout the agency. The response to these vacancies exceeded expectations, with a substantial number of applications received.
Following a thorough evaluation of the candidates, the agency narrowed down the selection to just 155 individuals, constituting a mere 1.6 percent of the overall applicants. The position in question was assigned the least favorable ranking among all the advertised positions.
Overall, the ODPP released a Gazette Notice valid until December 5, 2023, which publicized 186 job openings. However, it was revealed that a substantial number of 33,272 applications were received in response to the advertisement.

The position of Clerical Officer II received the highest number of applications, with 11,947 individuals vying for 30 available positions. Despite the high number of applicants, only 150 people were selected for further consideration.
Additional roles encompassed Senior Assistant Director of Human Resource Management, Assistant Director of Information Communication Technology, Senior Principal Prosecution Counsel, Principal Office Administrator, Executive Secretary, and Personal Secretary, among various others.
The position of Assistant Director of Information Communication Technology, which aimed to be filled, garnered the lowest number of applications at 61, and only 4 applicants were shortlisted.
Overall, merely 917 people out of more than 33,000 applicants were selected for consideration.
The surge in application submissions reveals an elevated level of unemployment nationwide, as numerous companies are reducing their staff to maintain operational sustainability.
How to Check Shortlisted Candidates
The organization instructed candidates to review the complete roster of shortlisted applicants by visiting either odpp.go.ke or the ODPP Office Notice Boards at both the Nairobi Headquarters and county offices.
When navigating the ODPP website, it is recommended for visitors to switch to the careers section and subsequently select the hyperlink for Shortlisted Candidates. This action will prompt the display of a list containing all the names.
The PDF download contains information about the selected candidates, including their names, details of interview schedules such as venue, time, and date, and a list of documents that interviewees are required to bring.
“Interviews for the shortlisted candidates will be conducted from February 7 to February 31, 2024, at the Prosecution Training Institute in Loresho as well as the 19th floor of the NSSF building in Nairobi,” read the notice in part.
