Comoros Bestows Highest Honor on President Ruto

Thursday, President William Ruto received the highest honor from the Comoros Islands.

The President, who attended the 48th anniversary of the independence of the Union of the Comoros, received the Grand Cross of the Green Crescent of the Comoros.

During the celebrations of the Union of the Comoros, the head of state emphasized the historical, cultural, and economic ties between the two nations.

Our two nations have maintained robust diplomatic ties and fostered mutual understanding and cooperation in a variety of fields. Ruto stated that we must continue to build on our commitment to freedom and promote the free movement of people between nations.

Additionally, President Ruto departs for a four-day State visit to Germany and Belgium. “In this regard, I assure you that Kenya will eliminate the visa requirement for all holders of valid travel documents issued by the Union of Comoros by the end of 2023.”

To further strengthen ties between the two nations in the education sector, he stated that they were collaborating to allow Comorian students to pursue higher education in Kenya and pay the same tuition as local students.

President Ruto also announced the establishment of a Joint Commission on Cooperation, which aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas such as education, health, agriculture, and national security.

“This agreement paves the way for the formation of a Joint Commission on Cooperation to facilitate more robust and long-lasting cooperation between us. In addition, we have decided to hold the JCC’s inaugural meeting before the end of the year,’ said the President.

In addition, he praised the Comoros’ commendable efforts to preserve cultural heritage and promote sustainable tourism. The Head of State emphasized the urgent need for African-led solutions to address common challenges, particularly climate change.

In addition, he urged African nations to empower the Pan-African Parliament to manage the continent’s most pressing issues. “It is on these shared challenges that we must lead our people to find lasting, consensus-based solutions. We must embrace African solutions to African problems now more than ever,” he added.

He congratulated President Azali Assoumani for graciously accepting the enormous responsibility and monumental mandate of the 2023 AU Chairmanship.

“You have made the Comoros the first island nation to assume the leadership of our continental body. This is a tremendously exemplary accomplishment that will inspire confidence in all the people of Africa, whether they hail from small or large nations. “I take this opportunity to reaffirm Kenya’s commitment to you and the Union of Comoros as you lead the African continent to greater heights and address the daily challenges its people face,” he said.

The two leaders emphasized the need to continue consultations to build partnerships in multilateral forums to prioritize and effectively implement the Africa Agenda 2063.
