COMESA Announces Job Opening: Details and Application Process

The Regional Association of Energy Regulators for Eastern and Southern Africa (RAERESA), an agency under the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), is in search of a new Chief Executive Officer.

Individuals meeting the qualifications from any of RAERESA’s fourteen member countries are invited to apply.

COMESA, in a statement released on Friday, May 17, disclosed, “RAERESA seeks to hire a Chief Executive Officer from any of its member nations.”

The position will be located at the COMESA secretariat in Lusaka, Zambia, and offers a three-year contract, potentially extendable for another three years based on performance. The initial contract includes a nine-month probationary period.

The incoming CEO will be responsible for reporting to the Executive Committee of RAERESA on strategic matters and to the COMESA Secretary General on daily operational concerns. This role encompasses a broad array of duties aimed at advancing RAERESAโ€™s mission of enhancing regional energy regulation and cooperation.

Responsibilities involve providing strategic leadership and management of the RAERESA Secretariat, planning and overseeing its performance and external commitments, advocating for members, managing public relations, engaging with stakeholders, and acting as secretary to all RAERESA governance meetings.

Moreover, the CEO will coordinate and execute plans agreed upon by RAERESA members, develop policies and plans for the energy supply industry, and establish standards and measurement tools for the energy supply sector, among other duties.

Applicants are required to hold at least a masterโ€™s degree in a relevant field such as Economics, Engineering, Law, or another energy-related discipline, with a PhD being advantageous. Additionally, candidates should possess a minimum of fifteen years of pertinent experience, including at least ten years in senior managerial roles within the energy industry. A strong understanding of energy regulation, policy, and legal frameworks is imperative.

Applicants must be under 55 years old at the time of application.

Applications must be submitted through the Energy Regulators of the respective member states, as direct submissions to the Secretariat will not be accepted. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
