Comedian Professor Hamo Records Phone Call With Scammers Attempting to Extort Him(Video)

Previous Hot 96 radio presenter, Professor Hamo, previously recognized as Herman Gakobo Kago, fell prey to a fraudulent scheme aimed at individuals using mobile money services.

In a widely circulated video on social media last Sunday, the comedian captured his complete discussion with the scammer known as Omari.

He played along but was not planning to send the money.

The scheme the scammer tried to execute against Prof Hamo involved altering a received mobile money message, including a code and specific amount, before forwarding it to potential victims.

In Hamo’s situation, the fraudster alleged that they had transferred a previous sum of Ksh8,850 to the incorrect number.

Soon after that, he phoned the comedian and requested a refund, stating that his efforts to contact the telecommunications company had been unsuccessful.

“Refund my money. You can send me Ksh8,300 and keep Ksh500,” demanded Omari.

Throughout the entire phone conversation, Hamo maintained his politeness and cooperation but remained firm in his decision not to send the money.

“He will wait for long. Maybe he will call back,” the comedian speculated.

For years, fraudsters focused on more than 38.4 million users of the widespread mobile money service, consistently aiming to deceive them.

In November, the scammers targeted restaurants and nightclubs with edited messages creating an illusion that a bill had already been paid.

PoliticalPulseChat has learned that scammers download an illegal app said to be available on Google Play Store, which they use to manipulate mobile money messages.

The conmen copy their last mobile money message and paste it onto the illegal mobile application.

The app then enables them to edit the details, including the code and the specific amount.

It is then prompted to resend the message to the mobile money account holder’s phone to dupe the shop owners.

The conmen, who target establishments where waiters and attendants do not have access to mobile money phones that handle funds, then show the attendants the message to prove that the bill has been cleared.
