Collaborate or Exit: Gachagua Slams Kericho’s Governor Mutai And DG Kirui On Ongoing Feud

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Friday said that the Kericho governor and deputy governor should reconcile.

He termed their feud as a ‘shame’ to President William Ruto.

Kericho Governor Fred Mutai and his deputy Eric Kirui have been engaging in a political spat since they took over office.

Gachagua said that the President is respected worldwide and such wrangles coming from his home tarnish his name.

He told the two leaders to put their house in order or Kericho residents would send them home.

Gachagua said that the president is unhappy with the happenings in Kericho.

“Rais Ruto ameheshimika Africa na dunia nzima halafu kwake nyumbani Kericho watu wanagombana, sitaruhusu hiyo. Mfanye kazi pamoja na mkishindwa nitaambia watu wa Kericho wawatume nyumbani!” Gachagua said.

(President Ruto is a respected leader in Africa and the whole World but in his home town there are wrangles. I will not allow that. The two leaders should work together or else I will tell Kericho residents to send them home).

The supremacy battle between the two county leaders first came to the fore a few weeks after they were sworn into office.

Kirui went public stating that he had disagreed with his boss on the management of the county affairs, especially the filling of key positions in government.

He claimed there was a power-sharing agreement ratio of 60-40.

The two later reconciled and agreed to work together in a mediation spearheaded by the clergy.

“We have not really had a problem, it was blown out of proportion and people capitalized on it to create a division. It is not possible to agree all the time but we agree to disagree on issues. We are united as you can see,” Mutai said.

On his part, Kirui apologized to the county residents for their conduct and vowed to undertake his responsibilities as the deputy governor.

However, in May, they renewed the supremacy battle threatening to hold back services delivery at the county.

Mutai overlooked his deputy and appointed a junior officer to run the county in his absence.

A letter dated April 19 shows that the governor delegated duties to the chief executive member (CEC) for Water Rosemary Rop.
