Clergy Warns Gachagua: Seek Ruto’s Forgiveness as Impeachment Threatens

Clergy members have urged Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to step back and apologize to President William Ruto.

A group of Kisii clergy, part of the Kisii County Clergy Forum, has requested the Deputy President to extend an olive branch to President Ruto to ease the rising political tensions.

Speaking separately in Kisii and Nairobi, the clergy warned that the ongoing impeachment efforts could further divide the nation and called for a more balanced approach from leaders.

This comes after 291 MPs endorsed a motion to impeach the Deputy President.

“The Deputy President must remember that he serves under the President. He should initiate a conversation with the President,” said Peter Morwabe.

James Ondigo added, “You were once leading us in the right direction. Don’t stray from that path. We’ll be disappointed if you split, as it will create divisions among us.”

The clergy also urged the Deputy President not to challenge the impeachment in court, as it may further strain relations with the President.

“Despite our differences, we still have a nation to care for. Let’s prioritize Kenya,” said Bakari Douglas.

Public hearings for Gachagua’s impeachment have been set at the Kisii Agricultural Training Centre for the residents of Kisii.

The Association of Pentecostal and Evangelical Clergy has called on Gachagua and President Ruto to reconcile and forgive each other.

Nyeri residents have also voiced their opinions, with public hearings scheduled for Friday at Nyeri Cultural Hall.

“We voted for both of them. If one must go, they should both leave,” said a Nyeri resident.

In the meantime, a former National Intelligence Service officer from Kirinyaga County has approached the High Court in Kerugoya, filing an urgent case against Gachagua regarding his comments about NIS Director Noordin Haji.
