Citizen TV’s Yvonne Okwara & Sam Gituku Graduate With Masters
On February 17, Yvonne Okwara and Sam Gituku, anchors at Citizen TV, completed their master’s degrees at Agha Khan University.
Gituku and Okwara were both honored by the Graduate School of Media and Communication.
Additional individuals from the media industry who completed their studies at the convocation comprised Francis Gachuri, a former anchor at Citizen TV, John Allan Namu, an investigative journalist and co-founder of Africa Uncensored, and Zeynab Wandati, the Editor at Nation Media Group.
“Congratulations to the Executive Masters in Media Leadership and Innovation Graduates! We look forward to your continued success,” the university congratulated them after conferring their honors.
Zeynab Wandati was honored with the Sustainability Global Award by the School of Media and Communication and Harry Misiko, the digital editor for Nation, graduated as the top performer in the class.
Macharia Wamugo, the Editorial Director of Cape Media Group, has recently completed a Master’s program in Media Leadership and Innovation. Cape Media Group oversees operations for TV 47, Cape Media Africa, and Radio 47.

Nancy Booker, an Associate Professor and Dean at the Graduate School of Media and Communications congratulates the successful completion of students in the Master of Arts in Digital Journalism Program and the Executive Masters in Media Leadership and Innovation Program.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, Princess Zahra Aga Khan, and Sulaiman Shahabuddin, the President of Aga Khan University, were among the notable attendees at the event.
The convocation will be held on Friday, February 16, following an evening gala. A dinner at the Graduate School of Media and Communications’ premises will be hosted to celebrate remarkable accomplishments.
“Last night marked a historic celebration at the inaugural student awards dinner was a momentous occasion, honoring the incredible achievements of the graduates from this year’s convocation.
“We celebrated our graduands from our Master of Arts in Digital Journalism Programme, and the Executive Masters in Media Leadership and Innovation Programme,” AKU Graduate School of Media and Communications stated.Â
