Charles Owino Ousted as Migori County Speaker
Migori County Assembly Speaker Charles Owino Likowa has been impeached by the MCAs over alleged mismanagement of affairs of the House.
The impeachment motion was unanimously passed by 59 out of 60 MCAs present during the Tuesday afternoon session.
Following his removal, Deputy Speaker Mathews Chacha now assumes the role of interim Speaker.
The MCAs accused Likowa of poor management of the county assembly and lack of accountability on the House finance affairs.

Led by Majority Leader Ken Ouma, the MCAs said they have not been paid their committee allowances for a very long time and the Speaker has not been giving any proper reason.
Ouma said the failure of the Speaker to run the county assembly as per the expectation of the MCAs has derailed activities in the House.
His remarks were echoed by North Kamagambo MCA Collins Osewe who said that they have not been able to hold an Assembly committee from December 2023, hence the County Assembly has not been able to discharge its duties as expected.
He also added that the Speaker has not been looking into the welfare of the MCAs.
Acting Speaker Chacha said they’re going to work together henceforth to address the issues that have been ailing the County Assembly.
Likoa’s impeachment comes at a time when he has been battling cases in court challenging his election as the Speaker of the Migori County Assembly.
