Chaos in Kisii: Knife Attack in Church Injures 5

In a shocking turn of events, five individuals were injured when a man wielding a sharp knife burst into Deliverance Church in Kisii.

This violent intrusion occurred during a church service, causing chaos and fear among the congregation.

Among the injured was the Kisii Central Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD), who was present at the service.

The attacker, after causing significant disruption and harm, was quickly subdued and apprehended by the Kisii police officers.

The police also managed to recover the knife used in the attack.

The victims, who sustained various degrees of injuries, were promptly taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for medical treatment.

This incident is not isolated, as it comes on the heels of a recent violent episode on July 20, 2024, at another church in Kisii.

During that altercation, ten individuals were injured and subsequently hospitalized following a brawl at Nyabigena Adventist Church in South Mugirango, Kisii County.

This clash erupted between two factions disputing over the church’s leadership.

Reports suggest that the conflict at Nyabigena Adventist Church involved members from the Adventist Church and the Nairobi Cosmopolitan Conference (NCC), a group that had recently separated from the Adventist denomination.

Despite the split, both factions continue to conduct their services on the same premises every Saturday, exacerbating tensions and leading to violent confrontations.

These incidents underscore a growing trend of violence within religious settings in Kisii, raising concerns about the safety and security of worshippers.

The local authorities are now faced with the challenge of not only addressing the immediate aftermath of these attacks but also preventing future occurrences.

The involvement of law enforcement officers, such as the OCPD, in these violent episodes highlights the severity and unpredictability of such attacks, which can strike at the heart of community gatherings and places of worship.

The community in Kisii is left grappling with the ramifications of these violent outbursts, as they seek solace and safety in their places of worship.

The recent events have undoubtedly shaken the sense of peace and security that congregants expect when attending church services.

As investigations continue, there is a collective hope that measures will be implemented to ensure the protection of all worshippers and to restore a sense of normalcy and tranquility in these religious spaces.
