A Thanksgiving event in Choimim village, Chepkunyuk Ward, Nandi Hills Constituency, descended into turmoil when former Nandi Hills Constituency MP Alfred Keter made provocative statements against Kenya’s current President, William Ruto.

The event, which initially seemed to be proceeding smoothly, took an unexpected turn when Keter’s speech incited unrest and discord among attendees.

Keter arrived at the gathering in a helicopter belonging to KANU leader Gideon Moi and had reportedly mobilized local supporters to attend the event.

As the program got underway, there were no immediate signs of trouble. However, when Keter was allowed to speak, tensions escalated quickly.

His remarks, which included sharp criticism of President Ruto, stirred strong reactions from the crowd.

“Before voting for a leader to get to know the heart, I told leaders including Ruto that we must remember home. Ruto is sending security to Haiti while our People are dying in Baringo.” Keter is heard saying in the video

The audience’s outrage over Keter’s comments quickly led to chaos, with physical altercations breaking out among those present.

Footage circulating on social media captured the chaotic scenes, showing people engaged in fights and skirmishes.

The situation prompted authorities to intervene, temporarily suspending the meeting to restore peace and order.

Keter’s actions contribute to a growing trend of vocal opposition against the current government and President Ruto, who has faced criticism during his recent travels throughout the country.

This incident highlights the deep-seated political divisions and increasing tensions within Kenya’s political landscape.

Observers worry that these divisions could result in more frequent and intense confrontations as the country approaches its next election cycle.

The potential for further unrest poses challenges to maintaining stability and order, making it crucial for leaders and stakeholders to address these underlying issues and promote peaceful discourse in the lead-up to the elections.
