Call Out Leaders Undermining Gachagua, KANU Secretary Urges Ruto

KANU’s Political Affairs Secretary, Fredrick Okang’o, has urged President William Ruto to shield his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, from attacks launched by Ruto’s allies.

Okang’o stressed that Ruto should uphold his previous pledge to safeguard Gachagua from the kind of mistreatment he endured while serving as deputy president.

Speaking in an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday morning, Okang’o emphasized the need for President Ruto to publicly address and caution those perceived to be undermining Gachagua.

He highlighted Ruto’s prior commitment to the people of Mount Kenya, where Ruto assured that he would not tolerate any actions aimed at belittling his deputy.

“Ruto assured Kenyans that he would never engage in or allow any actions that undermine his deputy,” Okang’o reiterated.

Furthermore, Okang’o emphasized the constitutional bond between Rigathi Gachagua and William Ruto, forged through electoral processes.

He asserted that despite any current differences, Ruto is constrained from taking any action against Gachagua due to this constitutional tie.

Okang’o pointed out Gachagua’s growing discontent stemming from a perceived lack of recognition for his role as deputy president, particularly by individuals close to the President.

He stressed the necessity for Gachagua to engage in extensive leadership consultations within his region to assert his leadership credentials.

Okang’o’s statements follow a weekend marked by intense exchanges between Gachagua and a faction of leaders from both the Rift Valley and Mt. Kenya regions.

Gachagua, on Saturday, accused certain Rift Valley leaders associated with Ruto of meddling in Mt. Kenya politics, diverting attention from their own region’s affairs, and prematurely discussing matters about the 2032 elections.

Asserting the strength of his alliance with President Ruto, Gachagua emphasized the effective collaboration between the two leaders.

He underscored the government’s continued resilience and progress in delivering on its promises to the Kenyan people.
