CAF Increases Stadium Capacity for Kenya vs Madagascar Game
Kenyan football fans have something to cheer about after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) increased stadium capacity to 80% for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) clash between Harambee Stars and Madagascar.
This new directive means over 38,000 supporters will be allowed into the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasaraniโan increase from the 27,000 fans who attended Kenyaโs last group game against Zambia.
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF), backed by Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, had appealed against the earlier 60% cap set by CAF. The restriction followed chaotic scenes during Kenyaโs match against Morocco on August 10, when some fans forced their way into the stadium.
Fortunately, the game against Zambia went smoothly, with fans observing the 27,000 limit and others following the action from government-designated fan zones.

Ahead of the Madagascar showdown, Nairobiโs fan zones have now been expanded to 13 locations, including Ruiru, Camp Toyoyo in Dagoretti, and Babadogo, where local leaders will help maintain order.
On ticketing, CS Mvurya announced that the official online portal has reopened to accommodate more sales after the capacity hike. He urged fans to respect CAF rulesโthose with tickets should head straight to Kasarani, while non-ticket holders are encouraged to enjoy the game from fan zones or at home.
โI appeal to all Kenyans to follow CAF protocols. If you have a ticket, go directly to the stadium. If not, the fan zones are ready to give you a near-stadium experience,โ said Mvurya. โLet us keep the discipline so we donโt risk losing these higher attendance numbers as we aim for the finals.โ
With the CHAN 2024 group stage now complete, the match against Madagascar on Friday could be Harambee Starsโ last at Kasaraniโunless they make it to the final, which will also be staged at the iconic stadium.
