Business Collapsing to Health Scares, How Monica Kimani’s Death Affected Her Family
The relatives of the deceased entrepreneur Monica Kimani continue to suffer from the grief of her passing, despite the resolution of the six-year-old legal case.
On Wednesday, March 13, Judge Nzioka issued a verdict sentencing Joseph Irungu, commonly referred to as Jowie, to death as the prime suspect in Monica’s murder case.
Just before the sentencing, Justice Grace Nzioka detailed the impact on different members of the victim’s family in the moments following her death.
According to a report, Monica’s mother experienced an extended period of depression and had a stroke several months following the passing of her sole daughter.
“During the interview with the deceased mother, the probation officer was forced to pause several times as she kept breaking down and wailing, to allow her to come down,” Justice Nzioka noted.
The mother of the deceased advocated for the accused to receive the death penalty, conveying the anguish she experienced while grappling with the brutal murder of her daughter.
“The father is reported to have indicated that the extensive media coverage impeded the emotional healing,” Justice Nzioka added.

“He ceased watching the news, limited his movements, never went to public places, and only now does online jobs.”
Jowie Irungu, who was the main suspect in the gruesome murder of Monica Kimani was sentenced to death, after a thorough analysis of evidence provided in the case.
Justice Nzioka considered how the killing occurred, the gravity of the offense, and the defendant’s character when delivering her judgment.
As per the probation officer handling the matter, the defendant exhibited dual personality characteristics and consistently employed anger and aggression as a means to manipulate and dominate others.
The officer additionally characterized Jowie as someone who seeks excitement acts on impulse, and exhibits anti-social tendencies by consistently living on the edge of life.
